There is a way to do this by creating CUE items for the track you want and then use that reference in albums where you dont want it, but it is a manual process and very monotonous to do. The other drawback is if you ever move the original track to a different location these virtual tracks will need to be updated (manually again).

Many ppl have asked for this feature along the way, but the consensus has been to keep albums complete and instead select the best version to use.

Marko has a system for this which i'm sure he will share.

As hit_ny said, this has been asked very often, but the usual answer I saw is that hard drive space is cheap now so just keep the duplicate copies. I sure would like to get rid of the duplicate copies though. I was starting to play around with just creating playlists for every album and then the playlists could point to the one version of the song.

This is an example of the CUE solution:

The first one is the virtual file. I got it by importing this cue file:

Code: [Select]
PERFORMER "The Beatles"
TITLE "Best of"
FILE "D:\Music\The Beatles\Help\07 - Ticket to Ride.mp3" MP3
  TRACK 01 AUDIO
    TITLE "Ticket To Ride"
    PERFORMER "The Beatles"
    INDEX 01 00:00:00
  TRACK 01 AUDIO

It is possible to import it several times and tag every entry differently. Cue files have currently problems with CD burning and Library Server. I still hope that these bugs will be fixed.

... Alex quipped about something similar using APL files, this would work fine with me as well for the reasons mentioned above. ...

Perhaps it should be bumbed again.
