Amazing! [MC on a Mac]
« on: October 14, 2006, 08:01:55 pm »

Don't know if this is the place for this or not.

Just thought I'd let you guys know that I think v.12 is amazing.

I switched to Mac back in July and haven't had any reason to use a PC. I checked in a couple weeks ago and low and behold here I was on the MC12 beta list. So I figured I'd give it a shot. I borrowed my friends HP and took it for a spin.

I have to say, v.12 is a HUGE improvement over what was already amazing app. After toying around with it for about an hour, it made me wish for a OS X port of MC.

Overall, I didn't run into any bugs. I'm sure they exist but I'm not the type of power user that would run into many, if any, show stopping bugs. Things imported fine. Libraries listed fine. Images displayed perfectly. Playback was perfect from what I could tell.

I'll be checking back in periodically to see how things are improving. I might even Boot Camp this thing with Windows XP just so I can install and help you guys test MC12.

I too switched to Mac this year and am happily running BootCamp with XP.  All the relevant drivers now seem to work and have absolutely no problems with MC12 ( or anything else for that matter ).

MC does also work using Parallels Desktop and running Windows XP inside a virtual machine.  That's nice because there's no rebooting needed!    :)

Yeah, MC is basically the only application that I use Parallels on the Mac for.

Jim, why don't you release a universal binary Mac version? Do you think the market demand would be too small with iTunes out there? After all iTunes also exists for Windows and still people very much prefer MC. If you don't feel like giving a public answer, a short PM would be appreciated. Thanks and keep up the great work!

I think if MC could function as a daap server/client (and not only on Macs, on Windows too), there could be room for it.

I wonder if MC would work correctly in CrossOver Mac? I've heard it is near rock stable for most applications running on the Win32 API. I may give it a go and see what happens.

*UPDATE*

Forget that idea. MC wouldn't even start. Looks like I'm going to be waiting until I either Boot Camp or get Parallels.

Yeah.  Last time I looked, MC was listed as Not Working on their web site.  Too bad, as that'd be pretty cool!
