Integrating Online Photo-Services with MC
« on: October 21, 2006, 06:30:16 am »

The other day I read about this new software called ProtectMyPhotos on TechCrush. It occurred to me, that it would be extreamly nice if MC would integrate with one of the many available online services. Smugmug, Flickr and probably others have an open API and could easily be integrated with MC.

It would be cool if one could just highlight a bunch of photos in MC, right click and ship 'em off to Smugmug/Flickr/Zoomr, especially since most photos are already tagged in MC.

Alas, I am no programmer myself. . .

Cheers,
Rasmus

Could you configure a right-click "Send To > External" tool to work?

Also, do any services support drag-n-drop?  You can grab any files (or tree items in MC), and drag them to any program that supports drag-n-drop.

Maybe you could. I think there is a python script for smugmug at least. . .

With all this integration with video sites and other web medias it would seem logical to have a two way communication; that is  to be able to submit content.

Both methods (send to and drag-n-drop) will work with the Flickr Uploadr:

I would like support for the downloading of Webshots images (www.webshots.com) directly into Media Center as they offer high quality professional pictures. They have their own format that allow users to view them only as wallpapers and screensavers.

I am sure some special format could be agreed that would exclude them from printing!

Of course, there are illegal tools that convert them to jpg files, but then retagging is required, which is a very time consuming work! It would be nice to download them directly to MC12.

Main one I'd like to see it integrated with would be Gallery2.

Just like MC seems to be the market leader for Multimedia desktop management, that one is from what I've been able to see, the web leader for the same thing.

Being able to combine the info between the two (my desktop and the web) would be HUGELY useful and powerful!

Yes, Gallery2 integration would be cool.

The Gallery2 java uploader client does accept drag and drop, that is mostly what i do.
