Logitech harmony 1000

Hi,

I'm planning to buy the all new Logitech Harmony 1000 remote control. Can I control Media Center with this remote?

Paul.

I don't see a reason why it shouldn't work. I use an older harmony to control my HTPC (and all other equipment too).
Oh.. and you would need some software/hardware (e.g. girder/USB-UIRT) to capture/interpret.

hope this helps

Thanks for the info.

Guessed as much. MC doesn't support it via a driver. The problem is latency. I now have the MouseControl X10 and I use MAX10.exe and MC11.exe to capture. When I skip to a next number the latency is about 2 to 3 seconds. I now use the Driver that supports my control and latency has almost gone. If I would use the Harmony I'll get the latency problem back (not nice).

And that's not all. Because I use MC11.exe MC sometimes crashes when I skip numbers too impaciently.

So what's the verdict with the Harmony 1000?
I am looking to buy this remote.
Have you found it works well with MC12 and especially in Theatre view?
Being a not Techie is it easy to configure to work with MC12?
Thanks for any help

Hi,

Well I decided not to take the risk. As long as Media Center doesn't support Harmony 1000 Remote Controls I'm not going to buy.

HI Paul
Is it the case that Media Centre dont support Harmony 100 , where ws that stated?
Is there a list in a post somewhere saying what Remote controls are supported.
Most remote controls it seems one can get to work (from what i have read on various Forums) but to customize to exactly how u want is a whole new learning curve!

Have i missed something or is there very little chat about remotes on this forum?

Harry W.

Ok, MC does not have a driver for the Harmony 1000 RC. So you can't control it via MC directly. Using Girder or like in my case Max10 (for Mouse Remote) you can intercept commands on your PC and forward them to MC. That way you can control almost anything on your PC. My PC is 4 years old now and because it is too slow to do this task fast I get latency. If you have a fast PC the latency will be less (the crash remains of course). I'm not ready to decided to buy a new Media PC just yet (just bought a nice laptop so the budget is low)

Paul.

PS: You can find a list of available drivers in the Plugin Download area (go to Plugin Manager an click the link there).

Are you using flac? the crash you mentioned sounds like ones caused by changing tracks too quickly when using the flac plugins. I'm sure this has been fixed in the MC12 versions of the flac plugins but I'm not sure about the MC11 versions.

Didn't even know there was something like FLAC! If it's not in the standard install of MC I'm certain I'm not using it. Will look at MC tonight at home if I'm right!
