govideo 2730 upnp settings? / skipping songs...
« on: December 05, 2006, 06:23:46 pm »

Hi there. I'm not exactly sure which settings I changed recently in my UPNP setup in MC, but I'm now having a problem where, if I go to play a whole album, song 1 will play, song 2 will be skipped, then song 3 will play. In looking at the logs for the UPNP plugin, I see that song 2 is requested, then 1 second later, song 3 is requested.

Any ideas on how to fix this? It used to not do this...

The GoVideo is one of those devices that is not auto-detected. I had also thought in the past that if I set it to the Buffalo device, it would work, but when I tried that tonight, it didn't work...

Also, if I change the settings in the MC UPNP plugin, do I have to stop and restart the server for the changes to take effect? Also, do you recommend that I completely power off the GoVideo when I change the settings, or just re-connect to the MC UPNP server?

Thanks.

Did you update Media Center recently? The GoVideo player firmware?

I'm not sure it's a settings problem. Is it possibly a conversion problem? Half the files are in the wrong format, and are not being converted?

The server will restart itself after changes if needed. I don't know about powering off the GoVideo.

Hello. I  think that I updated Media Center when the new 11.X was released a week or two ago? GoVideo has not released new firmware in years. :(

This has happened before, and I think that by futzing around with the settings, I was able to fix it. I know that all of my files are in the same format, and properly encoded.

I was thinking of downloading and installing 12. Any UPNP changes in V12?

Thanks.

There's been quite a few changes, but nothing major (visible).
I implemented proper HTTP pipelining, which some players like, though this change is invisible from the user's standpoint.

I can't think of any of the options that might cause this. Keep trying, and when you figure it out, post here please so that the next person will be able to find out wht to do.

Hi there.

Well, it seems that unchecking the "skip child count" option in version 11.x seemed to help, at least for the GoVideo player.

If it starts acting up again, I'll see if I can figure it out.

[edit 2006-12-16]
I think the issue was happening when MediaCenter was transcoding files. I noticed that it was transcoding mp3 files, even though it didn't need to, and was still sometimes skipping tracks. So, I set it to transcode never.

Thanks.
