Hi,
I'm not able to access the media server from Media Center 12.0.139 running on windows xp pro sp2 (firewall deactivated). the client machine is running under w2k sp4. On both computers the same version of Media Center is installed (and the same port is set). Every time I try to connect to the server I get the following message:

"The Server is a different version or not a Library Server. Please update both machines to the current version and ensure Library Server is running on the proper port."

With Media Center 10 everything is working fine.

P.S.: Is there a way to show similar information about server settings in MC 12 like in MC 10 (currently streaming song, wich library is shared and so on)?

There's a good chance the error message is correct.  Is it possible another program is running on the port you're using?  Can you try another port?

just tried another port (8989), same result :-(. "netstat -a" is showing me that no other programs are listening at this port.

Firewall or proxy server? Someone may be stripping of the "X-" headers used to send the version info from the server to the client.

No Firewall and no Proxy are used. And with Media Center 10 everything is working without problems (yes, I'm using different free ports for my tests with MC 10 and 12 :-).

MC10 and MC12 can probably not co-exist on the same PC.

I'm seeing the same error. I have MC 12.0.139 installed on both client and server and no other versions of MC installed on either. Library server used to work fine (up until 12.0.130, which was the last version I tried). Perhaps the 130 -> 139 upgrade failed to update something somewhere?


Edit: I just noticed on the server side: Services & Plug-ins -> Library Server it says:
01/09/07 10:42:18 - JRiver Library Server Version 1.0.33 starting...
01/09/07 10:42:18 - Starting Auto Detect beacon
01/09/07 10:42:18 - Failed to start sharing

I don't know what the "failed to start sharing" part means, but it doesn't sound good.


Edit #2: I also noticed that when playing around with this MC crashed pretty frequently. One crash that has happened a few times is I try to change the Server port number and as soon as I hit OK MC crashes. This doesn't happen every time, but I'd say roughly 1 in 3 times.


Edit #3: I found my problem. For some reason I'd set the Remote Server (not Library Server) to the same port number. This was making MC unhappy. Turning off the Remote Server fixed this. It'd be nice if MC detected this and gave a helpful message, though.

Can you try the latest version (12.0.144). I made a fix today, but don't know if it will help in your case.

oh no, I'm so confused, I mixed up the web server with the library server!
I'm such a fool! Now everything is working.
