New Usability problem with Encoder settings in MC12
« on: January 22, 2007, 02:17:44 pm »

Hello.

I have just upgraded from MC10 to MC12.  I have discovered a new usability issue that was not present on MC10 related to encoder settings.  I encode to MP3 format.   For music, I just pick the 128 preset.  But, for "audio books", I defined a custom string like this:

lame.exe -m m -a -cbr -q 2 -b 24 --resample 16

This downmixes the bitrate, resamples and produces a very low bitrate, bandwidth-limited MP3.

On MC10, I could just leave this string in the "Custom" definition and easily switch back & forth between "128" for music and "Custom" for low bitrate mono stuff.  However, with MC12, there is no way to preserve the Custom string.  Changing to any other preset wipes it out.

I would like this addressed (perhaps by keeping an MRU list for custom strings, or something like that).  In the meantime, is there a workaround.  Is there some way I can make my custom string become a preset, perhaps by registry or .ini file hacking?

Thanks,
