Failing to load library in 11.1.201
« on: March 01, 2007, 02:02:01 pm »

I just upgraded to 201 on my two machines and now it is impossible to load the library from one PC to the other.
MC gives the error: Media Center failed to load the library 'Search for Media Servers'...

And yes, they both run the same version and there is no trouble with the network

Any suggestions ?

What does the "manual test" of the connection from the wiki show?

It show that the library server answers. Ie it ask if I would like to save the library file....

And if you create a library for the remote computer? Does that work?

What's the network path between the two systems?

Well, yes. If you by that you mean that I can load the library by specifying the network path in the library manager.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by network path....

I've shared the directory on the library server   ....jriver/MediaCenter11/Library

and then used the Library Manager to point to the Default (library)

Are both machines at your home? How are they connected? Is there a wireless network, a switch, or more between them?

The auto-find search only works on the same network segment:

They are both on a wireless network. But this has work fine up in 11.1.196 and earlier releases. This happend when upgraded to 201.

Hmmm. I just tried to check for updates, but now that fails as well. Reason: Unknown
Could these things be connected ?

I'm not sure what's going on. Can you go back to 196 to see if it still works?

Not quite sure. How do i downgrade ? And can I download 196 from somewhere since I've deleted it ?

i don't think they have MediaCenter111196.exe on the server anymore.

I have it but my ftp server is on the blink

Ok, fault found. Since I discovered that it didn't work to check for updates I figured that it had something to do with MC ability to connect to the internet. So I tried to open Web Media, and then I got a message box with a IE logo stating that the page I was trying to reach was not available (ie. MC was not connected to the internet). Would I like to connect or keep working offline. I opted for connect, and voila ! Everything worked ! Wheee !

How this initially happened I don't know. Anyway, thanks for all suggestions and help !
