Universal shortcuts?
« on: April 21, 2007, 05:43:56 pm »

Hello,

I wonder if there are any ways to define universal shortcuts for audio playback in MC12. It uses CTRL+L (previous) and CTRL+N (next), but they only work if main window is on top. I'd like to jump to next/previous tracks also when MC is minimized.

Any suggestion or feedback will be welcomed and greatly appreciated.

Regards,

And

you could set MC to 'minimize to tray', (tools > options > general), which places an MC icon in your system tray. basic player commands will then be available to you when you right click on that tray icon.

see this post for a couple of other possible solutions.

Oh, by the way, one more question;

Is there a "start minimized" option, so that I won't have to minimize the mini window at every start-up?

You should be able to configure any program to start in a minimized state by right-clicking the shortcut and setting the "Run" mode.

It can be confusing if running a program doesn't show anything, so you might want two shortcuts.

But the "Power" shortcut at the Media Center Toolbar (that Marko gave at the other topic) is directed to C:\WINDOWS\system32\MC12.exe, and that file does not have "Start minimized" option.

No problem, but I have one last (probably) question :)

The Media Center Toolbar's shortcuts do not work. I right click on them and determine a shortcut, but they do not work. How can I jump to previous/next track without using my mouse, only with keyboard?

You can navigate any MC menu with the keyboard using up, down, enter.

You can also do typed-letter navigation and Alt+letter shortcuts.

I mean; when MC is minimized (right-bottom), and some song playing; how can I jump to next/previouse tracks only using my keyboard?

On topic with this thread:
I would also like to see some sort of universal shortcut keys available. I used Winamp before upgrading to Media Center, and it allowed me to set custom universal shortcut keys. I must say, they were extremely handy when I didn't have access to the Windows taskbar (such as while playing a full screen game).

Most newer keyboards have multimedia keys on them.  Media Center supports those nicely.

User-defined custom keyboard shortcuts are currently not available, although you could use any keyboard shortcut program and have them run MC commands. (like MC12.exe /Command Previous)
