Smartlist using limt/sort on only a portion of list
« on: June 15, 2007, 10:35:43 am »

What I want to do is fairly simple. I want a smartlist of the top 1000 audio plus any songs imported in the last 60 days.  I have both pieces, but it seems limit/sort are applied to the whole list rather than just the 1000 part. I have played around with parens and the OR expression with no luck.

[media type]=[audio] ~sort=[number plays]-d ~n=1000 [Date Imported]=<60d

Thanks

Make two smartlists:

Smartllist 1. [media type]=audio ~sort=[number plays]-d ~n=1000

Smartlist 2. [media type]=audio playlist="smartlist 1" or [date imported]=<60d ~sort=random

play smartlist 2 and enjoy.

-marko.

Okay- thanks. I thought about doing that, but thought there might be another way. Your smartlist list can get really junked up i you do that a lot.

That's why I file any 'support' smartlists away inside a group of their own. I'll never need to view them directly, they're just there to support other smartlists or view schemes. I have to dash now, If I remember, I'll expand on this a bit tomorrow.

That's a good idea.

Does MC12 support doing this in one Smartlist?  I could see it getting messy if you do a lot of thing like the top 10 of x, combined with top 10 of y, combined with top 20 of z,etc...

I'm not sure how to do this but-
What I want to do is set up an auto radio station playlist which would
1. Basically play from one genre.
2.....but would also insert a set number of promo & station id's from another genre

The promos would have to be limited to a certain number per hour (say 12)
I would want the playlist to run indefinitely in a random order.

Is this possible?

Any help appreciated. I tried to do this once before but didn't work very well. Apologies if I've missed something similar in the forum.

regards,
Geoff

You're looking for something quite advanced.

The ~mix rule might help.  I'd try the wik link above, although it's possible you've reached the limits of the smartlist engine.

thanks Matt, I'll check that out, in the meantime if anyone has done something similar please let me know as I'm pretty hopeless on the smartlist formula stuff.
