We spoke with the Intel Viiv team a while back.

However, we haven't done any work for the DirectTV reciever.  Do you know if that box will be OCAP compliant?

Here's an interesting poll on Viiv from a while ago:

I just discovered yesterday that the HR20 can also detect UPnP servers. I'm dying to get a chance to plug in the network and see how it detects MC. There's a bunch of talk over in dbstalk.com about using the HR20 with WMP11, Tiversity, etc. but I hadn't seen mention of MC yet.

THE HR20 can see Media Center and you can even get through the menus for pictures, music, mocies, etc. but it will not play the music or display the pictures.

Did you try sending a sniff to gateley at jriver?  Info is in the wiki.

When I went to the wiki, it already had a statement that the HR20 is not supported for UPnP. Too bad as it detects MC fine and I can traverse my MC tree. Unfortunately it just won't play.

Even though the wiki states that the HR20 is not supported for UPnP, it does work fine with WMP, Tversity, and Twonkyvision. Would it do any good to send a sniff to John to see if we can get this working with MC?

Don't know if this is meaningful or relavent, but to make Twonky work with the HR-20, you have to use a plug-in that converts to LPCM - some sort of lame/LPCM encoder (http://www.twonkyvision.com/Download/Add-ons/index.html).  Without that add-in, Twonky won't stream MP3 files to the HR-20 either.  I wonder if something similar is needed for MC?

So Jim, can we get MC to work with the HR20? This is the only high-def DVR now sold by DirecTV and you know how big a market that is. It should prove very beneficial to JRiver to be able to grab into that market, which after users try it for just that can see the big potential for MC and should increase market share.

I'll second the request! I'm getting my HR20 installed next week and I'd love to not have to use anything other the Media Center!

That would be great as I also have the HR 20.

I would also love to see this added.  Newest software from DirecTV (CE release as of tonight) seems to have really improved their implementation - I have it working with WMP 11 for the first time.  Very easy, straightforward setup.

Has any progress been made on serving the HR20 from MC's UPnP server?

Especially now that the HR20 is going to support VOD (video on demand) soon and needs to be connected to the Internet. I have my two connected to my home network ready for this and now am just waiting for MC support.  ;)

Same here.  Just set up wired network connections for 4 HR20's for VOD - also hope for D* to allow network sharing SOMEDAY!.  But would also love to serve up music to remote HR20's.

I have an HR20 install scheduled for Friday. Count me as another one would like to access MC through my HR20. Meanwhile, I will be keeping my hacked HDVR2 primarily for this purpose.

Hi,

I have one HR20 now and may well add a second.  Using them to access MC would be the ultimate.

At which point do we reach critical mass?   ;)

John, would it be helpful for others to send a sniff?

How about barking up DirectTV's tree for a few days.  They could really help if they wanted to.

Sniffs are good, also.

Sure, although you guys are much easier to talk to.  I am happy to post in the cutting edge DirecTV forum at DBSTalk (can't actually talk to DirecTV about it b/c it isn't officially suported yet).

What specifically can they do to help?

They could give us specs or send a device.  A word of encouragement even.  Product manager's home telephone number, etc.

Thanks for trying.  I think you, as a group, can be a lot more effective than we can.

Can the MC UPnP server transcode to LPCM with a plug in?  It looks like this might be part of the hangup.  Still don't know why JPGs don't work though.

Sorry for how that came out.  I LOVE this program...best thing out there, especially with all the recent enhancements to Theater View.  The HR-20 stuff would just be icing on the cake.  Keep up the great work J River!

We haven't had time to look at this.  Sorry.

Time for my first annual bump for this thread.  It looks like the PS3 isn't fairing much better than the HR20 in terms of getting MC supported.  I just want a device I can consistently use to access my library of music (preferably maintaining lossless quality), JPGs and video.  My HTPC has been too loud, too unreliable and too much overhead.

It would be great if one of the other devices I already have could fill that role.  Maybe I just need to buy a Popcorn Hour...
