Voltage/Line levels

Anyone got a reference/tutorial to audio signal voltages?

I'd like to know what "line level" is, and what my laptop is outputting through the headphone jack, and what "phono" level is.

I currently plug my laptop into my home stereo via a "line in" jack, but I don't think it's enough power...

Strangely, wikipedia seems very rough in this area.

Thanks King -I figured out a bit more than yesterday. Basically, it's not a voltage thing, it's an impedance thing. And if I understood correct, you'll get the most volume from a headphone connector feeding a line-in stereo when the PC volume is set at 80% max.

So, instead of fixing the headphone jack on my PC, I'm looking at USB audio cards so I can feed line-out to line-in...
