Ratings modified when syncing iPod!
« on: September 09, 2007, 11:17:54 am »

I've noticed that several of my favorites have disappeared off my radar - that is, I screen out songs with a rating of 1 using smartlist filters so that when I sync my iPod, I don't fill up my limited space with stuff that's not my favorite.  So, this morning I started to investigate - and I found a lot of my four and five star rating songs now have a rating of 1 or 2!  I spent about an hour re-setting my ratings, re-synced, and then found more songs dumped back to 1 or 2 star ratings.

I've used search and can't find any other references to random resetting of ratings.  Anybody else experiencing this phenomenon?

I've noticed this since I've upgraded to 12.0.318

I know this is an old topic but this same thing has happened to me.  Well, a similar thing anyway...

I'm a long time user of MC and like to think I know it pretty well and I've also been synching it with my iPod very successfully for many years.  What I noticed recently is many of my favourite songs set to 1  or 2 stars and it's inconceivable I've done this myself as those ratings would have been set many years ago in most cases and never touched.  On further investigation it seems as though some albums actually have the ratings jumbled up amongst tracks i.e. some favs are rated 1 and tracks I don't like have a rating of 3 or 4.  I have 56000 tracks in my library and have been carefully rating them for around 6 years now so this is nothing short of a disaster in terms of the man hours lost.

Can anyone throw any light on how it might have happened?

I did some more investigation by looking at date last modified and found around 1700 files affected over 4 different dates in AUgust this year.  It certainly looks to me as though I've synched my iPod and MC has got things completely screwed up when updating rankings.  As though it's applied them to the wrong tracks :(

I at least have a playlist now full of all the tracks that need re-rating but I'm still very curious as to how MC has managed to do this as I find it generally very stable and reliable these days.  Any thoughts anyone?
