I'm pretty sure there's no way to do this but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Is there anyway to change the Library Server library (like album art, delete dups, etc.) from a client to the Server?

My Library Server machine is remotely located and the only way I can make changes now is over the network via VNC which is always slow and awkward at best.

Am I correct in my noticing that Number Plays actually increases when a remote computer plays songs?  I connect to my server at work and believe that's the only place I connect to the server but have noticed on subsequent connections (each day I arrive to work and connect) that the Number Plays counter is going up!

Yes, this would be easier to update than tags so maybe Number Plays does work correctly but nothing else.

Ideas?

The client cannot change the server library, except that last played time and play count are updated.
