tv recording
« on: October 08, 2007, 09:37:19 am »

i'm trying out media center and i like the fact that it supports my usb tv capture card...

one question though, does media center have to be opened to record tv even though a schedule has been set to record

if i have media center closed, it will not record, if i open it, it records...

it would be nice if you could record without having media opened

Options > General > Run Media Server on Windows startup

This loads a light-weight version of Media Center capable of running servers, doing scheduled tasks, etc.

No. MC records using whatever MPEG-2 format that the WinTV device is set to use. We can not get into WinTV's internal settings. However, maybe you can try setting it using WinTV's property pages before starting to record. The property pages are found here in MC:

Options -> Advanced Properties -> Video Capture Filter...

i know wintv allowed me to save in several different dvd and mpg formats (don't remember exactly what they were called, but there was an extended, long play dvd and a few mpg formats)...

Options -> Advanced Properties -> Video Capture Filter... has some different sizes, i'll try changing that and see what happens

thanx

i changed a few settings in Options -> Advanced Properties -> Video Capture Filter... to almost what i had in wintv and the recorded file size is now almost the file size what wintv made

So it was changing the screen size that resulted in the smaller file ?

There is, but it should not be 30 minutes. Check Options -> Recording -> Limit Recording to:
and make sure you did not accidentally set it to 30 minutes. However, if it did not record anything at all, that is not likely the problem.

If this failed recording was a scheduled recording, was MC running when the scheduled event was to happen?

it was a scheduled record tv recording with media server running

there was also a scheduled record tv recording set for today for 30 minutes and that didn't record neither

play a mp3 for an alarm and watching tv works just fine

I ran out of ideas. I scheduled a few two minutes recordings (one at a time), they all recorded.

Does instant recording work for you?

yes instant recording works, but not scheduled

gonna try and reinstall it and leave the Options -> Advanced Properties -> Video Capture Filter at the default settings and see what happens
