Bitrate display during AAC playback

When playing back VBR MP3, VBR WMA, Ogg or FLAC files, the bitrate displayed constantly changes. When playing back VBR AAC files, the displayed bitrate is constant. I know it is a minor point, but is this due to a limitation in the AAC decoder?

MC uses the Quicktime engine to play AAC and doesn't get the information.
