Some questions to V12
« on: November 13, 2007, 11:30:08 am »

Hello,

I bought MJ8 5 years ago, use it on a daily basis and was very surprised to read that you are working
on a new version.

I installed Version 12 and have a couple of questions.

1. Is it possible to use version 8 and version 12 together ?
After installing V12 I was not able to work with V8 anymore.
I had to restore a backup.

2. Will you integrate the commandline interface ?
I tried it with "mediajukebox.exe /Command Pause" as an example but nothing happend.

3. Is it possible to import a backuped library from V8 into V12 ?
I coudn't find the place within V12 to Backup/Restore the Library like in V8.

4. Is there a way to read the complete database and/or the active playlist from V12 into a textfile via commandline ?
In V8 I take a copy of mediafiles.jmd/curplaylist.jmd, because they are already in textform.
In V12 the file 'mediafiles.jmd' and all other database files are nevermore in textform.
I need this for further integration into an automated menu, which a can control over my remote via girder.

5. Have you thought about integrating further languages into V12 so that you can control it with a Spanish, German, etc GUI ?
The english version will be OK for myself, but I knew friends, parents, etc. who would be using only a german version.
And you would have a much wider customer range.  ;)

1.  MJ8 and MJ12 won't work together.  Use one or the other.

2.  Check the devzone for parameters.  Link above.

3.  Not sure about the backups.

4.  No.

5.  It's there (under tools).

All the command line parameters (and many more from MJ 8 days) should work.

You need to target MJ12.exe in the system folder, instead of Media Jukebox.exe.

Here is all the relevant documentation: http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/The_Command_Line

Thank you for the quick answers.

I managed to use the command line interface. I didn't know that there is a mj12.exe in the system folder.
And the MJ Core Commands are also working. Very nice  :D

And one other good point. I could import my whole database ( about  2800 tracks - ape and mp3) from MJ8 into MJ12.   ;D

If there ist no other way to access the database, I think I will have to write a plugin with the interface SDK.
Do you know if it is possible to use perl for writing the interface or must I use one of the programming languages you are writing about in your description ?

I've been unable to do #3 either.  I backed up my library in V8 before installing V12, but can't figure out how to restore it.  Any help would be appreciated.

I've got 12.0.7 so I should be ok on that front.  I'm looking for some kind of library manager, or restore library feature a la V8 which I can't find.  Nor have I found a place/way to drop my .zip or .jmd file.  The help file points me to File > Library > Restore Library (or Load Library), but there is no File >Library (new version, old help file which is understandable).

"you need v12.0.369 or later"

.. of Media Center 12 or any older Media Center version from 9.0 to 11.1.  (marko didn't notice that we are on the MJ board.)

MJ12 has the MJ8 library importer feature internally, but unfortunately MJ12 doesn't provide any way to use it. I have reported about this problem and I hope it'll be fixed soon.

As a workaround it is possible to manually replace the MJ12 library files with the MJ8 library files. I have tried it on a test PC and it worked fine.

I'm not at that PC now, but I'll check the exact file paths and other details and post step-by-step instructions later.

Thanks for the reply.  Appears V12.0.8 fixes this issue so no need for the step by step.

I just installed v.12.0.8 and noticed the same. This change wasn't separately mentioned in the change log so I didn't expect the back up & restore tools to be available yet.
