Wakoopa
« on: February 13, 2008, 07:27:42 pm »

Hi there,

Just today I found this web service thing that tracks application usage, Wakoopa. Since I have a fetish for statistics, I decided to set it up immediately (I don't believe this to be a threat to my personal integrity - but yes, I guess it is spyware that you consent to...).

My half-day old usage profile can be found here: http://wakoopa.com/p7389/usage

Anyway, the annoying thing (as you see) here is that MC gets classified as MSMC. It's really something of an affront. See here: http://wakoopa.com/software/media-center

I sent Wakoopa an annoyed message about this.

I have no idea how these things works, but I think it would be nice if MC could get their own page, with their own nice high res icon, description etc. Might be good PR too, reviews are bound to be sheerly positive, exposure, etc.

Maybe it just keys off of the process name?  Media Center.exe.

It's easy to get more information if they wanted it.  For example, the main window has the class "MJFrame" (for legacy support reasons).

Media Center got misclassified by Wakoopa due to the similar executable name it had with Microsoft Windows Media Center. It was an old identification issue which is now resolved. JRiver Media Center can now be found here: http://wakoopa.com/software/j-river-media-center.

I took the liberty to update the profile page for JRiver Media Center as best as I could. If you're a Wakoopa member, then you can change all this data yourself too. If you have any more questions, let me know! :)

Why not setup 10 or so computers running MC in the corner with that software running?  Boost yourself up in rankand gain popularity.

Although I'm going to say that the service seems pointless other than for others to view the results.

That would be cheating.  We don't do that.  I guess that must sound old fashioned.

I think the service looks interesting.

They were happy to have heard from me. I like companies like that :) As Wouter says, there's a page there now. I don't see how I can edit though?.. OK, I see it...

EDIT: The editing thing was quite nice, I could have reported through there had I only known about it...

It worked... until I updated to the latest MC just released. But I contacted Wouter through mail, so I'm sure they'll fix it (come monday I guess, since it's the weekend now).

EDIT: OK either it fixed itself or the Wakoopa guys did it, because MC and the MSMC that popped up has merged now.
