Stream from Orb?
« on: March 08, 2008, 08:20:40 am »

I'm setting up my daughters' laptops (2) so that they can access my media files over the internet.  I know that I could use MC and set up the library server relationship...but that seems very convoluted, plus I would have to purchase 2 more MC licences. I know that Windows Media Player and WinAmp are capable of this type of streaming, but I would prefer to use MJ if that will work.

Thanks in advance!

MJ12 can act as a client if you run MC12 on the server.  Library Server, under Servers in the tree must be running.

Firewalls can create obstacles.

From what I was reading, one of the requirements is that both (all) machines must be running the exact same version of MC.

Orb (apparently) just sets up a VPN, giving access to specified shared objects, but what I don't understand is whether or not a shared object (folder) can be specified as an Import folder in MJ.  That would be a more elegant solution than running Library Server...if it works.

I guess I can just test it with my own laptop...
