What's the story with the bijen?  Holland or Germany?  Great pictures.

And is that blue plastic thing one of those rivers and locks toys for kids?  I always wanted one.

yeah.. its holland. about a week ago. at the house of a friend of us. her neighbour has some hives, one queen thought it was time to move... its beautifull indeed. the guy who came to pick them up had a hard time. took him three hours and some swollen hands.

dont know about the blue thing. guess i have seen it in the past. her son played with it. with water i guess.

she took the pictures. when she was here in germany last weekend, i posted them so her children, who where in israel at that moment, could see them.

Not Sure What Specie It Is, But I Know You Don't Want To Have Honey Bees In Your Walls.

When They Remove The Bees, The Bees Wax Melts, And The Honey Starts To Rot In The Walls.

At That Point You Need A Carpenter To Tear Your Walls Out.

I Know Honey Will Crystallize After Some Time.

At Any Rate It Was Nasty When They Cut The Wall Open.

They Called My Company To Kill The Bees, But We Don't Kill Honey Bees so We Had To Get A Bee Keeper.

The Owner Paid $1,500 Or So To Have The Wall Fixed.

My One And Only Experience With Them.

she called the guy she thought was the owner. he took them away and gave her a nice bottle of wine for telling him. mostly people are not that friendly, he said, to just contact him without any anger. we drank it last weekend. was a nice wine.

the bees are for honey. they nest in walls often. never heard of wall problems but i guess it could happen. next weekend im meeting an old friend who did a lot of research on bees. ill ask him. fascinates me.

I Did Some Reading, The Smell May Have Come From The Dead Bees...

Never Thought About Fire hazards...

After the bees are killed, remove the nest if at all possible, without causing excessive structural damage. Destroy the comb and honey, especially if they were treated with insecticide. If the nest is not removed, the wax cells may melt or be riddled by wax moths and leak honey. Excess honey may seep through interior walls and ceilings, leaving permanent stains.

Wax combs near the inside walls of a chimney are fire hazards. The comb and its contents may melt when exposed to hot summer temperatures without bees to keep it cool, especially in walls facing the south.

After a dead colony has been removed and the structural damage caused in removing the colony has been repaired, clean the area thoroughly with soap and hot water. Paint and carefully plug all entrances through which the other possible bee swarms might enter. Odors left by the killed colony can linger for a long time and attract other swarming bees.

one queen thought it was time to move...

If the queen thinks that it's time to move then there's something wrong with her current home... not enough space, not enough water, and too much sun come to mind.  I miss keeping bees...

that is it jim. picture is not taken far from the bee pictures. guess the distribution of the blue water things is dense in holland. a good thing with so much land under sea level.. preparing kids for the future.
