Won't Pickup my VCR Channel
« on: June 05, 2008, 08:00:39 pm »

Hi,

I'm new to MC, and am having a small problem. It will pickup all the analog channels except for the one that my VCR is tuned into. I know the frequency that the channel needs to be so I was wondering if there is anyway I can add it.

I've trued the frequency override, but have had no luck.

Thanks

Sorry, I do not understand your question.

Is a VCR connected to your TV tuner device? How?

Sorry, I'll explain it better.

I've got my VCR connected to the antenna socket of my tuner, and my antenna plugged into my VCR, as a result when I tune, the VCR should be watchable on one of the channels (just like a TV station).

The setup is fine, because on the app the came with the tuner it works fine (the VCR is watchable when I switch to CH 37)

Thanks

When scanning, the tuner will not pick up any channels that are not active. So when VCR is not playing, it's output channel is not picked up.

VCR outputs on channel 3 or 4, right? You can just manually add the channel after you scanned all other channels.

Tried what you suggested, but doesn't work.

In the software that came with the card, my VCR is picked up at the frequency:
592050000 hz and MC seems to skip over that frequency when scanning, even on the aggressive scan

Thanks

592050000 hz

This frequency is odd, being close to analog 34 in USA (instead of channel 3, or channel 4).

You can try the following:

1. Manually add channel 34. Do frequency override on that channel if necessary.
2. Do a scan while you play something on VCR.

Sorry, I should have stated that I'm in Australia.

I've manually added the channel, and done a frequency override but it doesn't pickup an override frequency.

I've been scanning with the VCR playing something the whole time.

Thanks

This seems to be an unusual problem. It has been a while since I played a VCR. Is there some setting on a VCR that switches between VCR output and cable?

592050000 hz is close to this broadcast channel in Australia:

       604250000L,      // 39   (23) UHF Band 5

For cable TV, the frequency table is different, but it really should not matter.

Did you select "Cable" or "Antenna" for scanning? How about try reversing that setting?

Not that I can see.

I selected Antenna when scanning. When I select cable the VCR is picked up, but shows in black and white.

Thanks for all the help so far

I checked my VCRs. They definitely have a switch, usually available only on remote control, labeled "VCR/TV". When pressed, it toggles between the following to states:

1. VCR output is the only signal received by downstream receiver (usually TV, but in your case the TV Tuner device in your computer).
2. VCR output is by-passed. Downstream receiver receives channels directly from the cable.

Hi

Thanks for all your help, I've changed by set-up to connect my VCR via composite, so I've now got no problem.

thanks again
