Last night no problemo. Was on version 12.371 or close. Just updated to 12.512 and now when I play any track in the library I get a static-like noise that varies along with the track's volume.

No appliances running in the home. Has anybody else had this problem and if so, what is the fix? If not, what can I check on my end??

Change playback from Direct Sound to Wave Out or vice versa?

If you're running through an amp, turn up the PC volume.

Was Direct Sound, works in Wave Out. Rebooting had no effect.

What might there be about Direct Sound that would cause the static-like noise? I don't recall ever selecting either Direct Sound or any other mode for that matter.

Also, the files played well in Windows Media Player.

What file type?

Take a look at the filters used to play the filetype.  DirectShow configuration is under Options/Playback/Video.  You can tell MC not to use DirectShow.

Sorry to bump up this topic again.
I also noticed a strange noise when selecting directsound, while it is gone while selecting wave out.
I don't remember having seen this before.
Is there any benefit from using directsound above wave out?

I just play mp3 files, no video.
