Problem with detached display visuals
« on: June 27, 2008, 04:31:31 pm »

not sure what version this started on but definately 451,492,497 and 515 When using visuals and detatched display media center does not want to 'redraw' itself on the main screen or respond properly if it has been minimized. Lose control of functions, screen has. memory and cpu show normal when in detatched mode: 13% CPU and under 40K memory.

XPPro. Dual quad core xeon 4 gig ram

I don't recall this problem with any prio version up to 451. anyone else having this issuue?

once the screen finally redraws after multiple attempts and get the detatched display back  all returns to normal so this is definately a detatched display bug

I've got an older 370 version. Can I revert back to this one safely? I'm not using any fancy stack features. Only using for music playback and visuals being controlled via cinemar musiclobby. only possible issue is client music manager PC is running version 479

geforce?

Did you test without MusicLobby?

I'm not sure what you mean by this:

Client and server should run the same version if you're using Library Server.

Yes. Tested without music lobby. As soon as I detatch the display to monitor 2 j river becomes either unresponsive, won't refresh, or refresh is brutally delayed along with responses. As soon as I double click to bring back the display all works normally again

Did you make any other changes at about the same time you found this problem?

Video driver, for example.

no changes.

Client started complaining about music problems several weeks ago and I could not figure out why out of the blue this would be happening. Had been running detached display visuals for the last 8 months without issue. Ran J Rivers all day today and tried multiple version all with same result. Nothing to do with MusicLobby either. As soon as detatched display is re-attached, everything starts functioning normally again.

I can't reproduce this.

I wonder if some certain display running in the detached display is eating message loop messages.

What if something simple like "Cover Art" is shown in the detached display?

I'm assuming that your "yes" was to Jim's "geforce?" and that he meant "G-force" the visualizer and not "GeForce" the Nvidia video card line.

If this assumption is correct... Make sure you're using the current version of G-Force.  I had similar problems with G-Force and older versions with a variety of different video cards.  Andy's made some recent MC-specific fixes to G-Force.

Current version is 3.8.3, which was released on Monday (06/30/2008).

You can download the newest version of any of the Soundspectrum "paid" products here: http://www.soundspectrum.com/support/download_products.html

I don't believe I'm using the G-Force visualization as I'm just using the stock ones installed in Media Center. I'm also not using any of the 3D ones. My settings are  Visualizations->Cycle All

I tried rolling back to a previous version of MC to solve but the database is no longer compatible.

Frustrating as there is more than enough horsepower to deal with this kind of thing and the client loves the feature for party time but now I've had to pull the plug on the whole thing for him until this can be resolved.

As I said earlier, there has been no hardware changes in the last 8 months and up until a month ago all was working perfectly. No software changes either except J River updates

It's just Visualizations...not cover art.

PS: Client meaning my client..a human being.

Again, what happens if you use just "Cover Art"?  What happens if nothing is playing, so the detached window is empty?

Can anyone else reproduce an issue like this?

Thanks.

In addition to Matt's questions,

- Does the problem exist only when the detached display is on the second monitor - i.e. does it work normally if the detached display is on the same monitor with MC?
- What happens when the detached display is dragged from a monitor to another?
- How are the monitors configured exactly? (display adapter model (or models), driver version, the used output connectors, driver settings, settings inside MC, etc)

Other than with G-Force, I haven't ever seen it.

I wondered about Alex's video card and monitor questions too.  Really "feels" like a Display Driver problem to me.
