Only some highlighted MP3s play

I'm using Media Center v.12.0.526 on Windows XP Pro SP3 and when I highlight multiple MP3s to play (with MP3s associated with Media Center opening all MP3s by default) and right-click to click "Play in Media Center" from the context menu, the Player opens, but only some of the MP3s I had highlighted are in the "Playing Now" Pane to be played and they are out of order.  One example, I highlighted 18 MP3s (tracks 1-18 all there and in order in Windows Explorer), and right-clicked to play them in Media Center, but only tracks 1, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 are in the "Playing Now" Pane AND it is playing track 8, even though when I highlighted them all, I right-clicked track 1.  I hope I explained myself well.

Welcome. 

If you're playing an album, what happens if you right click the album folder?

Is shuffle on?  Little button in upper right.

When I right-click the album in windows explorer, it doesn't have the option "Play in Media Center" on the context menu.  I also checked and shuffle is off in Media Center. I wonder if anyone else can replicate this problem or if I'm the only one.  If anyone would try to replicate this and post here either way I would be gratefuly appreciative!!  ;)

Did some testing for you:
All that follows performed with MC already open. All selected tracks always make it into playing now.

highlighted 20 mp3s, right click, "play in media center"...

got the following warning:

I tried this a few times, and each time, the tracks arrived in playing now in blocks of 4 or more.
It did not maintain the correct album track order and appears to begin playback at a random place in the list, at least, the tracks were in a different order and a different track began playing, each time I tried.

When right clicking a folder, the option "Media Center > Play" always sends all tracks to playing now in the correct order and begins playback from track #1.

Similar tests made with MC closed...

"Right click on folder, Media Center, Play" always behaved as expected.

"right click on selected mp3s > play in media center" is not right.

I tried 3 times. All selected tracks appeared twice. the other time, 1 track was missing.

The track that gets right clicked on in explorer matters:
Right click on the first track, the list loads and plays from track 2
Right click on track #10, the list loads from 10 to the end, followed by 1 - 9, and begins playback from track #11

im,vho, the 'right clicked file' should not be something we should have to worry about.
I was also sure that this was something that was trialled a while back, around the time stacking became "right click file aware", and was changed after numerous complaints, I might be wrong about that though.
EDIT: I was half wrong. At that time, the menus in question were internal ones, not explorer ones. [link].
either way, it's not really working in a very intuitive manner at the moment, and is definitely dropping files along the way.

I think you need to commit more to Media Center!!

Your workflow goes: Windows explorer > Find files > play them in Media Center.

It should be: Media Center > find files > play them :D :D

I'm only half-joking btw.
If you explore MC's file management strengths, you should only need to use explorer to access your files on the rarest of occasions.

Have new files arrive in one central folder, or subfolders of a central folder.
Have MC watch that folder and import all new files it sees there.
Use MC to correct the tags on these files, then use MC to move them to their final resting place on your hard drive.
Then use MC to play them.

You can set up exclusive view schemes for the incoming files to make work easier and the "rename move & copy files" tool is all powerful.
Far be it from me to preach workflows to you, if you have a system that works for you, that's fine (once the bugs are fixed), I just chuck that out there on the off-chance it might be of use to you in some way.

Yes, you are right about how well Media Center manages files.  I'm quite impressed with the program as a whole.  It has my VERY critical vote that it is the BEST media player, hands down (and you way in the back, put your hand down too),  jk.  ;D  :P

I have sparatic "workflow" right now because I'm still setting up Media Center to my personal preferences...

Anyways, I'm glad I'm not the only one having these problems.  So...even though it's not that big-of-a-deal, will it be "fixed/changed" in future versions?

In a build of Media Center 12 that will be available later this week:
Fixed: "Play in Media Center" from Explorer could drop files if multiple files were selected with Media Center not running.

If you're getting files out-of-order, remember:
1) If shuffle mode is on, this would be normal
2) The file that you right-click on in Explorer may, by design, be the one that starts playback
