Maybe to do with this:
http://forum.kaspersky.com/lofiversion/index.php/t79415.html

Media Center probably uses Direct Input for it's Theater View keyboard input.

Here's an old quote (that's still true) from this thread: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=44690.0

"MC uses straight-forward keyboard handling, and DOES NOT have any kind of keyboard hook that inserts itself into other processes.

MC does support global keyboard shortcuts (and has one by default) that run by using the standards Windows API for a hot key.  This is safe, simple, and does not use injection.  For a virus checker to complain about calling RegisterHotKey(...) would be silly."

These companies are all about 'showing' you that their software is 'doing something'.  I haven't used anti-virus software in years, and haven't gotten a virus since!

That same AV application was famous for quarantining part of Windows Explorer last year, and calling it a virus.  Quarantining the primary process in the OS is generally A Bad Thing, and is likely to prevent future virus outbreaks by making your computer unable to boot up.  (Just happened this month with Trend Micro's AV package too.)

Don't know if they're really "the gold standard" when it comes to Antivirus.
