AIF Problems
« on: October 25, 2008, 04:55:54 pm »

Hi All,

Got a bit or a problem with MC13 ... 12 will happily play my AIF files but unfortunately 13 will not. It says:

"you may not have installed on your computer directshow filters for decoding the type of file you are trying to play" ..

Yet they work fine with MC12 ..

Any ideas ?

You could compare how the Directshow options for both players are set.

Okay ... it works if I don't use WASAPI  -  which was the reason I downloaded MC13.
So, can I not use AIF with WASAPI ?

Jim,

The error only appears when I have exclusive access ticked ...

AIFF is decoded by a DirectShow filter. (By default MC uses Microsoft's standard Quartz.dll filter.)

The exclusive WASAPI mode doesn't allow the DirectShow filters to put audio through.

You could convert the AIFF files to Wave or a lossless format (APE, FLAC or WMA). They would be decoded through MC's internal playback engine and would work with the exclusive mode. Though, probably you have a good reason to use AIFF instead of the more common PC formats.
