Burner goes dead after burning CD

Hey guys. This is weird: Every time MJ finishes burning a CD my burner becomes unusable until I reboot. It plays dead and won't even eject. It's as if it were unplugged (and not the good kind like Eric Clapton). Not even Windows Explorer recognizes my CD burner when this happens.

I tried checking and unchecking "Use generic driver" and "Eject after write" but it still does it (it freezes up before ejecting). I also tried to burn more than one copy of a CD but it still freezes the burner after the first copy is done.

I'm using Win2k with MJ 8.0.265. My burner is an LG 8320b ("HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8320b"). Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm beginning to feel like this guy ->

Please update MJ.  That's an older beta version.  It may help.

Also, check your aspi layer.

And take a look at the "CD burning tips" on the help menu on this web page. Look at your "auto-insert" notification setting.

Why use ASPI at all?  He can use the "IDE" setting (rather than "ASPI" or "Auto Config").

This will likely solve the problem, I'd expect.  I get all sorts of strange and maddening behavior when I use ASPI with Exact Audio Copy--including the weird things he described.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Unfortunately, I tried all of the above to no avail. I updated MJ, updated my ASPI files, went into my registry and turned off the CD auto-detect, changed the MJ settings to use IDE and even turned off "eject when finished". And it still freezes after each CD I burn!

Can anyone suggest anything else? (besides chucking the cpu out the window)...

I have the same problem but not (only) with MJ. If I burn some CDs with the WinXP-integrated burning feature, it locks the files I have burned (they reside in this temporary pre-burning-folder) and sometimes it even locks the burner.

I guess it's not a specific problem with MJ here. But maybe yours is.

Not sure what's going on. I would check the LG site for driver updates for the cdr drive. Maybe also try different media??

i have noticed in the past when a drive is having problems (cable, bad drive). that windows will deactivate a cd drive.

Also if two programs are trying to use the same drive at the same time this will also happen.

to the point of even totaly removing it from the drive list.

don't know if this is your problem but i have seen it.

I have to add, that this seem to be no problem with MJ in special.

Has anyone figured out a fix for this.  I used MJ version 7.5 (I think) on my Windows XP operating system without problems but when I upgraded to the newest MJ, after I burn a CD I can't eject the drive and I have to restart the computer.  Turning the auto-insert thing off doesn't help.  Any advice?
