Does Media Center have to be running to record a daily radio show?

I'm sure it's been asked/answered before, but I wasn't getting any search results.

I have scheduler set to record a radio stream every weekday at 6:30pm.
Does MC have to be running?
And if so, could someone point me in the right direction re using scheduler to turn on MC just before the show?
