I don't understand xmltv
« on: March 15, 2009, 09:12:01 am »

I just don't get how to use it. I'm in the USA and have successfully installed my tuner card (Hauppage WinTV 950 USB stick) and I have no idea how to generate an xml file and use it to imprt into MC. I've read the wiki pages, threads on mc2xml, and quite frankly I am just lost.

Any help in layman's terms?

Once you download mc2xml, you can run it from within MC13.

Try this and post back when you get stuck.

From memory...
1.  Scan for channels
2.  Choose mc2xml in MC/TV/Configure/Load Program Guide.
3.  The first time you run it, you'll see a list of cable and over the air options.  After that, it's automatic.

"Choose XMLTV and mc2xml in MC/TV/Configure/Load Program Guide."

How can I do both at the same time? What options do I set? What executeable do I set? What paramters do I pass? What do I put in the Load XML Results line?

I should have said "Choose mc2xml".

Okay when I do that I set the following options...

Location of executable - I browse and pick it (in this case, it is on my desktop)
C:\Users\Steve\Desktop\mc2xml.exe

I give my zipcode, country, and use 'Standard' lookup. When I change to TitanTV it gives me a command prompt box and something about an invalid -f. When I do standard, it appears to be doing something, finds my correct cable package and is writing data to some file. But ultimately when it finishes there is no info and I get a message about the XMLTV file not being valid or containing no information.

Try doing it again, use Standard, and check the option that asks for the paramaters again.

Look for a window behind the MC window when it finishes.

One of the last screens asks you to match your list of channels (assuming you did the scan first) against the mc2xml data.

i pick the correct cable company from the list but when it matches up, there is no data there. i get a list of channels 2-70 which is correct but there is a column that says XMLTV and it is completely blank, no channel data or anything. i click finish, and i get the same invalid error.

but it does appear to be downloading something from microsoft and putting it in some temp folder, but really, i don't know what it's doing or where to go from here.

Click on each one of the blanks to match it up to the data you've just downloaded.
