What is 20-30$ for an upgrade anyway?? It's almost free! Most of us waste that amount daily on crap.

If I applied that same logic to every teapot who came to my door or phoned me up I'd have no money left to pay the mortgage.

Quoting myself from the V14 Discussion thread:

Early versions of MC14 will work with an MC13 license.  There will be a discount when this changes. 

With build 170, new purchasers of MC13 receive an MC14 license.

The transition usually lasts several months.

For reasons I can't discuss, we don't have complete discretion on when to break from one version to another.  It typically happens about once a year.  This time, it went from August 8, 2008 to May 21, 2009 -- almost 10 months.
 

Expect the price to increase a little on both new and upgrade purchases.
