Oh, yes. Please. It's been asked for so many times. Would simplify my day a lot. Have to use custom fields for it today, and it makes several things hard to do.

+1

I suggest three improvements to the Rating field:

1. Allow numbers as well as stars that represent the numbers. Numbers can be typed faster, manipulated by expressions/formulas, and don't take up as much screen space as stars. Also, using numbers is a way to avoid the big danger that a rating can be changed with one erroneous click on a star, unlike other data values. (I've had this happen so many times that I no longer use the Stars-based Rating field to rate my songs.)

2. Accept decimal numbers as Rating values, ideally a 0-10 scale. Use full and half stars. Round Rating values up/down as needed to determine the corresponding Stars. If Stars are the user's display preference, convert them to numeric values in the field, such as 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, etc.

3. Generalize this to allow stars to be optionally used as the display mode of any numeric field.

3.

10 Stars would be great, but what if we could make them go to 11?  :)

You could enable the UI for this feature by introducing the "half-click" which would activate a half star in the rating system.

Or I guess double click... :(

I'd like to hear from JRiver what the objection to this feature is. Only been asked for many years.

Does it break any existing interactions ?

FWIW I tired of hoping halfstars would ever materalise.

Stars tell you how good (or bad) something is.

So to shoehorn into five stars you have to drop (how bad) something is and just concentrate on how good. Ended up with the following

*        = 2.75
**      = 3.0
***    = 3.25
****   = 3.5
***** = 4.0

You start thinking half stars won't sway the scores as much as full stars do, to have more granularity.

Then i went into quarters and found the above works well with any number of tracks or genres and gives realisitic album scores.

I think they would be a good addition but am afraid that I'd want to then to through and fine tune my ratings again.
