1) You should make sure you have the latest MC14 release, there has been a lot of work in that area.
I use it.

2) Are the PC and the PS3 both on the LAN side of the router??
The ps3 is plug on  ethernet directly on the box like the pc no switch used.So i assume that it's on the lan side.

3) Make just one profile in MC, use the PlayStation 3 selection.
I have never used profile i need to figure out.

4) Make sure your windows box firewall (if it's on) isn't blocking MC.
What port do i need to open on it?

The divx and avi formats will play without conversion depending on what is in the container. We are working on that to be more flexible. The PS3 doesn't support all media types. Here is a good guide:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3_system_software#Compatible_media_formats
Thx for the hint.

And thx to have answered i 'll retry this week end.

I have never used profile i need to figure out.

Services and Plugins->DLNA/UPnP->Server (check the box to turn the server on)
Add -> Playstation 3
Remove anything else that shows up in the box below server
click ok
Wait a few seconds then search for server on your PS3.
You should see the MC server on your PS3 now.

Can the the PS3 stream data to MC14 or the HTPC so that Blu-ray disks (or other media) on the PS3 can be played on the HTPC?

Sorry no, the PS3 only renders, it doesn't serve.

Would be possible to add support for "Browse by Folder"?

I I have TV series etc organized in a Medianbrowser friendly format, eg.:
series/season 1/S01E01.mkv

MC dlna navigation just shows S01E01.mkv and if one has a bunch of series with that name it's kind of difficult to know what show the file belongs to.

Am I the only one who can't play back flac files on a PS3?

I have MC 14.159, the FW on the PS3 is the latest - 3.15 I believe. flac files show up, I start playing it - silence for a second or two before the ps3 moves on to the next file  - repeat. I use the PS3 profile in MC14.

If the files are tagged with season and series (or if you tag them) you should be able to create a custom view in DLNA options using those fields.

flac is not a supported media type on the PS3
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3_system_software#Compatible_media_formats
Use "convert when necessary" and uncompressed wave.

Thanks Bob, I'll try that.

Hi Bob,

yes, that's exactly how it is configured. The PS3 displays the songs and it appears to be trying to play them for a second or two, before moving on to the next track. Weird.

Works for me with the current version of 14. Is there something unusual about your flac files (sample rate, etc)?

I finally figured it out! The PS3's audio settings were set to output "44.1/88.2/176.4". I changed it to "48" and the flacs are now playing! Weird thing is that mp3s played when set to "44.1/88.2/176.4".
Anyway, problem solved!

Well, I'd guess your MP3's are 44.1k. The Flac files must be 48k. Can you check this by viewing the tags in MC?

Bob, the flacs I tried were all 44.1k....

Somehow a max bitrate limitation somewhere - i.e. 44.1k is supported if bitrate is below X, 48k supported if higher?

I don't think so. It seems that it must resample to 48k. The one we have here was set to 48k by default.

So a limit in the handling of PCM by the PS3 then I presume.

Looks like it. I seem to also recall someone else posting a message to that effect earlier (the 48k sample rate) and I didn't quite get what they were referring to but it seems to fit the observed behavior.

newbie request. I just got a wireless network and managed to get the 360 on the network, Windows Media Center extender works great.
I can connect to xbox live, my desktop PC, etc. However MC14... not so much. I've tried following the instructions on this thread but there's got to something i'm missing. Basically, MC doesn't seem to see my xbox on the network. or rather, it sees it incorrectly, i keep seeing the message in the UPNP log:
received request for device description: Spinney-PC (xbox 360); Interface 192.168.1.2,
this seems to be incorrect, my PC has that address, and the xbox's is: 192.168.1.5.
Don't know what I'm doing wrong here...

You should be able to browse your MC content FROM the 360. You cannot control the 360 from MC.

WMP is not using DLNA to control the 360, it uses WMC.
