empty playlists!
« on: November 13, 2009, 05:25:06 pm »

I have just moved my entire audio collection to a new computer. I backed up my library from the old machine and restored it on the new one. Everything seemed to go ok....I had to remove some duplicates (about 18000 of them!)...and my playlists all appear but they are empty.....no files come up when list is selected. Smart lists seem ok.  I transferred files by installing the old hard drive in the new machine and using MC to move them. (Move and copy, find and replace...one of those libraty tools). The drive letters for the source and destination drives were both D but the source became F when I installed it in the new machine. Could this be my problem? I've got a lot of effort in creating around 100 playlists and I hope there is some way to recover them.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks, Randy

It is definitely the problem.  You can try Library Tools/Find and Replace.  It can replace "D:" with "F:".

Thanks Jim...I think you're probably right...but. I have moved/renamed all the files to D on the new machine as I will not be keeping the old drive (the one that was D in the old machine and has become F). To make myself clear, I hope: Files were on D in old machine...I hooked up the old D drive to the new machine, which now saw it as F, as I already had a D and E on the new. I then moved the files from the old D (now F) to the new D on the new machine. Since my library pointed to a D drive on the old machine and now reside on a D drive on the new...it seems like all should be well...and it is except the playlists display nothing. I am probably not understanding this right...does it make sense to you? Maybe in the transfer, the file locations got mixed up and I should try another library backup? It seems like if I just replace D with F, files will just get moved back to the old drive.
