I'm starting this thread to keep track of TV's that support the DLNA protocol. Please add to it if you can.

These TV's have a network connection so you can put them on your home network.

Samsung 7 series -- price at Best Buy is around $1500.

Sony Bravia W series -- may not be in stores in U.S. yet

You can play from MC to the TV. Please take a look at DLNA on our Wiki.

I have a Samsung series 6 LCD (LA32B650) which does support DLNA. I am still yet to get it working though. Looking forward to the day when MC can stream directly to it.

Edit:

Apparently bad information. The Samsung web site says that it is DLNA certified:

Make sure you try the latest build from the top of the MC board. We can probably get it going if you'll help.

Cool,

It works with the Samsung software that came with the TV but that doesn't allow browsing the media via the tags (i.e. Genre, Series etc.)
It doesn't have a nice front end like MC but at least if I can browse via categories it would be better than what I have.

Is there anyway to get the JR Theatre view displayed on the TV over the ethernet. (I don't think so but just thought I'd ask)

Last night I tried build 118 on my Windows 7 Laptop and selected the Generic DLNA server option in MC. The TV was able to see the folders but evertime I went into the folder the TV dropped out of MediaPlay and back to normal viewing.

Do you want me to capture some logs to send in?

Try a few of the MC UPnP Server options. Try DLNA and then modify it.

We would need a "sniff" of the traffic from a "sniffer" program. Wireshark is what we use.

I have captured a comms trace using wireshark between my Windows 7 MC DLNA server and the TV. Setting is the default Generic DLNA running on the default port (2870). The only things I changed were checked shrink large images, selected never to convert audio (The encoder was MP3).

Using the above I am able to browse the categories of all media types i.e. Audio, Images, Video as defined in the MC tree views. I can even see the thumbnail images of my pictures (jpg) and embedded coverart on the mp3's BUT when I go to play/view any of the files a message box appears on the TV saying "Unsupported File Type". This is the same message for all media types.

This is a step further than I was getting with the earlier build (.111)

I can't see how to send the log file in. Is there a FTP site or email address to get it to you.

I've got a Sony KDL-55XBR8 (named KDL-55X4500 in my country) that is supposed to have DLNA.
It is not working with MC14 (build 118).

But apparently Sony TVs are reported in forums to behave strange regarding DLNA.
The only server i was able to stream to my Sony is ps3mediaserver ( http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/ ).
This (free of charge) server is written in Java and has sourcecode available.
Might be interesting for your developers.

I just read a post about the ps3mediaserver that said it worked with a wired connection, but not with a wireless connection.

Hi MC team,

Just wondering if you have had a chance to analyse the logs for my Samsung DLNA issue. Build 121 allows me to browse my library via the MC view schemes, I can even see thumbnails of coverart but when I select to play any of the media types I always get the same message on the tv. i.e. "Media Type Not Supported".

Is it possible this is a MC transcoding issue?

Any help appreciated

I can see Windows 7, but its slow, clunky and does not allow tags. I can see the media server, but nothing plays at all (says media not supported)

We tried this tonight on my folks Viera. Latest Build of MC14.
The TV found the DLNA server fine, and we could view the audio files. However when trying to play the files the TV displayed the message
"File Not Supported".

The audio files were all Mp3. I tried playing with conversion settings but it didn't help.

I've made some changes in the next build of 15 (this will be 15.0.17 or greater) after doing much searching for the differences with the Samsung tv's.
Under advanced options in the DLNA options, turn on DLNAExtra.
Report back please.

In DLNA options, is the "support video" checkbox on for your server? Does video show up under customize views? Are you using the current version?

I was running 15.0.23 that I downloaded on 4/15, but now I am running 15.0.28. Nothing changed after the upgrade. Yes, the "support video" option is checked and video also shows up under the customize views.

I still do not see the MC15 server listed under the video section on my TV. The Sony menu is a little weird. It has 3 different categories for Photo, Music and Video. Once you select a category it lists all the available servers for that media type. For my windows computers and PlayOn server, they show up under all 3 categories, but my MC15 server only shows up under Photo and Music. When looking under the Photo and Music categories I can still browse all the various views, it just only shows media items for that specific category. So I can see the Video views when browsing Photo and Music, but just can't see any of the items.

Can you tell me what works and doesn't?
Start with all conversions turned off and test with just mp3's, jpgs and mpeg2 videos if you have them.
With and without the DLNAExtra flag enabled if you have time.

The TV finds the server no problem. I can then navigate through audio/video no problem.
I can see all the files no problem.
When trying to play an MP3 the TV reports "File not supported".
Turning DLNAExtra on or off, with or without DLNA does not help.

We've tried MKV's and VOB files to the same effect.

Unfortunately I don't get to visit my folks as much as I'd like any more, and when I do it's rarely for more than a weekend.
Tonight it's just for one evening, so I can't do much more testing at present.

It works on my Philips 8404. Tversity and Orb (Winamp remote) also work fine on it. Tversity is still the simplest, because you get an app that helps you along easily with all the settings. Hope JRiver, or someone clever will make a nice app like Tversity, for all the dumbasses like me, who have endlesss problems figuring out firewalls and routers and so on. Also, if someone could make an app for Android, that includes folder browsing, I will bow down, kiss their feet and declare him/her God. Anyway, a Philips 8000 or 9000 series TV is be able to play this.

My LG 42LE5900 supports DNLA however I have not found the correct setting in MJ15 to get it to work. TV came with an OEM version of Nero MediaHome (hate that software) but I would like to use MJ.

You'll probably want to update to the latest build (15.0.101)
Then start with the generic DLNA server. In the Media Network advanced options turn on DLNAExtra, make sure the subtitle checkbox is off, turn off all audio, image and video conversions.
Once that's working on your TV you can try the options.

I am extending my house and working on the area where TV will be based in the bedroom. TV has DLNA and I would love to use MC15 to stream music. Reading through the forum gives me an idea that this should work, but the question is, how easy is it to select the music and control playback? Going through the long list on by one using TV remote up/down keys does not look like an attractive option. Is it somehow more convenient than that?

More details of what I have:
Samsung UE40B7050 (tv)
DM800 (sat receiver, probably not relevant to JRiver, but it is on LAN and has Linux on it with tons of add-ons, widges)
ArvaniErgosound (soundbar, still to be bought)
MC12 (to be upgraded to MC15)
Windows Mobile device with NetRemote on it (works well to control audio streams)

Should the control via TV be slow, do I have an option to use my Windows Mobile to select song, control volume, etc while the actual stream would be played back on DLNA enabled TV? Controling MC via NetRemote is quite convenient.

You can customize the views that MC gives to the TV so you can have just about any grouping you like.

installed trial of MC15 and enabled DLNA. Samsung picked up library without any problems, found my music. I didn't load whole library, just few cd's, so library was loaded quickly on tv. I could only use tv remote to move through my library and this might be a bottleneck for biger library. This is why I try to get help here from more experienced users. I was not able to control playback on my tv by using web controls, but maybe I did't set it up correctly. Ideal for me would be to set up so that I turn media player on TV, which connects by default to MC15 library, but then I use my phone or pc to control library: selecting artist, album, controling volume, etc. Do you guys know if it is possible? That would enable me to skip one device in my set up. If this is not possible, I need to put a PC or drag audio cables from MC15 pc, both of wich are not that atractive....
