I can't uninstall this product
« on: January 24, 2010, 06:26:09 am »

Someone recommended the Media Center to me, and I downloaded the free trial. To be honest, I didn't like it very much. My 30 day trial has expired and when I tried to uninstall it, I got the message that it "failed to load JRTools.dll" and "please reinstall the latest version". So I tried to download the latest version- 3 times. I have now spent over an hour and a half re-starting my computer over 6 times, then another 20 minutes trying to find answers in this forum. A few threads have mentioned this problem, and the advice was "reinstall" or "uninstall as an Administrator." Both of which I have tried and neither has worked.

Can someone please advise me? I really don't want this program on my computer. Thank you.

Sounds like it may not have fully installed the first time.  Try reinstalling and rebooting, then uninstalling.

The other possibility is that the version you're installing is different than the version you're trying to uninstall.  Old versions are listed in our wiki (link above).  Search for "Old Versions".

Is the account you are trying to uninstall with an Administrator account?
Standard accounts can cause problems when doing these kind of things, I'm sure MC normally works with standard, but it's probably worth making sure you're running a full admin account.  Also consider turning off any anti virus software while performing the uninstall.  Sometimes these products can block background operations.  MC is generally quite good when it comes to uninstalling.

Failing that maybe it's your machine trying to tell you it's a really good product and you're making the wrong decision!  ;)
It would be interesting to hear what problems you had with MC.  You may find people here that can help you.

Thanks for your replies.

Anyway- yes, everything I do is under the "Administrator" account. I tried installing an old version- even though it kept telling me to install the latest version- and that actually worked. I was able to install and then fully uninstall.

To be fair- I'm sure this is a really great product, especially for people who are quite technical and care alot about bitrates and whatnot. For me- I just want something simple. Call me old-fashioned, call me a fool. Thanks again for your help.
