last.fm plugin
« on: February 08, 2010, 10:57:07 pm »

MC 14.0.96 worked just fine with last.fm plug in. JRiver however, made software upgrade compulsory to keep on using the program, so now I'm using 14.0.140.
This is great, however, the last.fm plug in is somehow working strange, as it will only work by stopping it and starting it manually through the plug in manager each time i run MC, which i find really annoying.
Is this just me? or is it a known bug? please help me solve this..

I have already tried running MC with admin rights and no deal...

It might be related to this problem:

i think it is, however, i solved that specific problem by executing media center as an admin, that gets rid of all crapy messages, as it allows the program to correctly write and read files over the disk...
but still, my last.fm plugin isn't starting by itself, even though the plugin manager shows it as active  :-\

You should not need to run MC as admin.  Try the fix from the other thread.

Try reinstalling your license.

Hi Trilyan, JimH,

Same here, same plugin, did try to re-register, and still LastFm does not start with MC14 (140).
The "Run the plugin when..." is always unchecked when I restart MC.

Weird, no? Shall I wait for the next release?
I am on Win 7 64 if that may help.

Thanks JimH for the quick reply,

No such folder as C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\JRiver\Media Center 14... in my system.
I did try to re-install with a fresh download of 140. I also turned off and on UAC.
No success yet.

Any more advice will be apprecaited. Unfortunately, I do not remember since wich upgrade I did get this happening...
Not long ago, but I will say a few upgrade.

If there is anything else you want to know let me know.

Hi,

I have the same problem, since v14.0.130 (I upgraded because of the forced upgrade, I don't remember which version I was using before). OS is Win 7 x64.

Since then, tried with .137, .139 and now with .140 without success. I just tried a full (with library) uninstall/re-install of .140. Restored my license too. Looked for that VirtualStore/JRiver folder but the VirtualStore directory is empty.

Surprisingly enough, last.fm support was still enabled after the full re-install, and my username/password were still there.

Scrobbling does work when the last.fm plug-in is selected in the left panel of the main screen. But as soon as I return to Playing Now, or anywhere else, it stops working. The "Run the plug-in when MC starts" is always disabled when I go to the plug-in options screen (can't tell how many times I enabled it already!).

So... maybe there's a bug here... everything else works fine!

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi Trilyan,
Check on the left pane under Services & plug-ins, you shall see a last.fm tab. If you click on options, you will find a list of choices including the "run the plu-in when MC starts"

OK I THINK I FIXED IT  ;D

Now that i got to the plugin menu, and saw the uncheked optioin i thought "Maybe it's beacause MC is failing to save the cheked option"
So i closed MC, and started with admin rights, went to the panel, and checked the box.
Now here's the deal
If i run MC with admin rights again, the plugin will start perfectly  :)
if i don't, however, the box will misteriously unchek itself  ?
i guess a just have to make a shortcut with admin rights and that's it...
let's see how long it lasts like this

Thank you Trilyan,
I did the same and it works now.
Thanks for the tip.

JimH,
Any chance to avoid circumventing this? I'm not an expert at all on Win 7 rights and permissions...

hey no problem! you made me realize of that anyway  ;)

This pals is an incompatibility problem between windows 7 UAC and MC that disturbs the process of reading and writing files.
While we checked the option for the plugin to start automatically, somehow, MC didn't had the right to write that in the options file, or whatsoever, read it later. This is why giving admin rights definitely solves the problem.

What i cannot understand is, why if we run MC without admin rights, it will revert it's options, that's a mistery to me, perhaps a reading file problem, i don't know, i strongly suggest it's related whith the above mentioned post, MC is having trouble with UAC, please JRiver, work on it  :)

This is an incompatibility with some older "bad" and unauthorized version of MC not downloaded from our site.  Removing the options.xml files described in the thread linked below (and above) will probably fix it:

The bad software wrote a bad file.
