Problems changing TV channels on new HTPC
« on: May 27, 2010, 07:39:50 am »

Hi Guys,

I've just built a new HTPC (Atom 330, Ion GPU) with Win7 and am having trouble with MC changing TV channels.

Card is the same Hauppauge 2200 from the previous PC.

Problem is that when I try to change channels, I get an awful stu- stu- stutter before it changes, or the audio simply continues to stutter while the picture freezes and I have to stop playback.

Had CCCP, Core AVC and Corel DVDxPack installed but removed and same problem.

MCE plays great with it - quick changes, no stuttering etc.

Have run it as user and admin, installed as user, uninstalled and re-installed as admin. No go.

Any suggestions???

A couple of questions;

What filters have you selected for JTV files?  Also check which ones are actually loading and post that info here.

Also as a test try with timeshifting off (I assume it's currently on?)

Hey Mate,

Thanks for getting back to me.

.jtv files are set to Automatic playback method.

Filters being used:
EVR
AC3Filter
MPEG-2 Demultiplexer

Without Timeshifting, the stutter is gone when it does actually change channel, but it's still freezing a lot of the time. Program stays responsive but TV freezes, need to escape and stop.

Are you using JRiver Audio Renderer (i.e. use the same audio output device as in audio playback)?  There is a minor bug in it which causes it to repeat the last sound byte when there is no new data coming.  This happens most likely when you have weak signal.

Yaobing,

Output device is the same as for audio playback - onboard device.

Would this bug also explain why no change of channel?

When you say Output device is same as Audio, in the video options screen what is selected for "Playback Device"? Is it "Same as device used in  Audio playback" or does it have your actual audio card/device selected?  Make sure it's set to your audio device.

Now try setting jtv files to use Ac3 filter and the "Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder", these worked OK for me.

Do you have any trouble starting playback on the channel you can't change to or do all the channels work OK and but it's just changing that doesn't work?

No.  It is noticed only if there is a disruption of signal such as trying to play a channel with very weak signal regardless of whether you change channel.  It is the result of channel change failure, not the cause.

Thanks Yaobing.

It's funny you say that though, because now that I've changed it to Windows Default Device, channels change without problem...

Again, thanks for your help.

Love your work :)
