What did I do? - Tree Sorting
« on: June 14, 2010, 06:32:01 pm »

I have been using MC for many versions now, and seemed to have screwed something up that always just worked.  I often use the default Audio->Disk Location tree view to organize and tag my files on my main drive before archiving them on my backup disks.  The exact match to the explorer folder layout (that updates as I import) is very useful in my archive process.  However, I did something that I can't figure out to cause the display to no longer be in alphabetically order.

While it used to display the folders as :
C:
I:
J:
L:

Now it displays something like
L:
I:
J:
C:

Similarly, the lower nested folder structures are also no longer alphabetical.

While I thought I knew what I was doing, and can create some sophisticated view schemes with custom sorting and complex rules, I can find no way of restoring the standard sort to this view.  The sort under the customize view menu seems only to apply to the results on the right, I cannot seem to change the tree on the left.

Any ideas?

maybe

select you view, right mouse button on the view and select customize view.
on the left side select your field and go to "edit "
check under sorting "ascending" or "descending"

maybe

Perfect!  Thanks - that did it.

I got confused by the different places to apply sorting - turns out under the edit menu there it was applying one of my custom fields for sorting the filepath rather than a simple ascending sort.

Thanks again!
