« on: July 06, 2010, 08:17:05 am »

When you are playin a song, how can you change the volume level, (or switch to next song, or move into the track) with a touch screen when using the obsidian touch screnn in theater view ?

All the options you need (next or previous song, volume up and down) is right there on the second roller. Try to play some tracks and you'll see it pretty fast.

The only problem I find with using a touch screen (don't have one yet, just testing with mouse clicks) is that the roller button selection move to the middle when clicking. This is a big annoyance for touch or mouse users. IF the roller is not positioned correctly you can easily move it manually, but most of the times it's just not needed at all.

J River, would it not be possible to have an option to leave the centering of the rollers out when using Touch screens? It would improve the Touch screen experience a lot I think. Or is this something that can be managed today??

What (and where ?) is the second roller ?

In playing now, I have 3 ''lines" of command at the bottom of the screen:
  - Titel of the artist + sname of the song + duration
=> when I touch this line it is only switching between  pause and play mode
   - Volume level
=> when I touch this line it's only switching between Mute On and Mute Off
   - Position
=> when I touch this line it is only switching between  pause and play mode
   - Rating
=> when I touch this line nothing happend

The touch action on my touch screen is similar to a left click with the mouse.
The only way to modify the level or the position is with keyboard (Left and right arrow)

Is there anything wrong with my parameters ?

I think you're describing "Playing Now" in Theater View.  Hit the left arrow a few times.

You should be able to see the second roller almost everywhere you go in theater view, except for some parts of playing now. Try to hit the back button and browse your library. Look for the second line of options at the top, when you go down to file level on your media.

Until the latest changes to theater view I always used a theme that displayed the vertical button bar. This bar had all of the most common controls needed for easy control. It look slike this is no longer available. Unfortunately, as a touchscreen user this makes navigation very difficult. My most common 'home' screen while in playing now was the Info panel. Unfortunately, the player control ribbon no longer appears in that view. I have several wall mount tablets that are used as clients to control my media server. These tablets do not have a keyboard or mouse. They rely on the touchscreen only. As it stands now it is nearly impossible to control playback from these units.

Yes. That would definatly give the touch users some problems :(
I planned on getting a couple of tablets my self, but this certainly puts those plans on a hold.

The more I attempt to use the new Theater view the more I begin to realize how much the missing vertical control bar has impacted my control. Using my remote control, I stopped playback to answer the phone and now I can't start the playlist from anywhere in Theater view unless I restart the entire playlist again. The playing now 2nd level roller lost all player controls. Is this a permanent design in theater view or will the vertical bar come back? I actually have to go back to the older version of MC because it is too difficult to use.

The player controls are always available on a touch screen in 'Playing Now' with any skin.

Here is a picture of Playing Now in Theater View (Obsidian Touchscreen) with a playlist loaded. If I already have a playlist loaded and simply press pause the player control remain. However, if the playlist is stopped the contros disappear.

really? i might be missing something or not understand what playercontrols are, but i only see them when there is a file playing. when playback is stopped, i can only find them by going to the list in playing now and select the file that is playing. which can be a search since it only sometimes jumps to that file immediately.

My $.02 is that the player controls should ALWAYS be available in Playing now regardless of the roller option slected. This has always puzzled me.

We'll change that.  At least 'Play' should be available when stopped.

That would certainly avoid the confusion. But, to be fair, play can be resumed simply by clicking/tapping the title.

Maybe it would help if both 'Stop' and 'Pause' would behave as if they were toggles. That is, when selected, 'Stop' becomes 'Play' and 'Pause' becomes 'Resume'. That would not only be more intuitive, it would indicate the current state. The existence of 'Resume' would indicate the current track is paused and may be resumed—or restarted using 'Play'.

I see that 15.0.73 now has a play button available in the Playing Now section. Is there any reason why the 2nd line that appears in the Playing Now view can't also be available in the Info view? I like to use the Info view most times so I can display pertinent tags data in the info panel. It would be a great help if the player controls were here too.
