Jitter in HD video file
« on: July 11, 2010, 01:43:33 am »

A challenge for the forum:

My HTPC works fine for more than a year, including JR13 Media Center software playing all media types.

Recently I played a  .ts file with an HD content. I observed a random jitter on the screen every ~30sec.
Very annoying….
The jitter looks like a very short yellow  smear in one frame (not the same frame each play).
When I play it again in happens in other locations in the time line on the video.
No audio hiccups.
CPU usage during playing ~30-40%.

Video file details:
.ts format containing HD video, 1920X1080P, 23.977 frame rate, codec H.264. Audio: AC3

My configuration is:
- MotherBoard ASUS P5Q-EM (HTPC oriented design)
- Graphics: on board G45 Intel chip set, with 2GB memory, HD capable
- Sound: 5.1 on board
- CPU Pentium E5400
- Memory 2GB
- 1T hard drive
- HDMI connection directly from MB to 1920X1080P full HD screen
- S/PDIF Optical cable to audio Receiver.
- WinXP pack3
- JR13
- CCCP codec pack

I do not believe the video file is defective, so it must be: either I am using the wrong codec, Need software optimization to fit the hardware, Compatibility between the system components,  Frame rate mismatch, Software does not exploit full hardware capabilities, I need a better graphic card, or hardware limitation (‘Buffer full’ somewhere, Bus too slow, Hard-drive too slow…).

Thnx

Try disabling the network interfaces.

It could be their driver or another driver for other hardware.

In my signature, take a look at "Weird Problems".

Network is off.

Jitter does not happen in other media like copied DVDs (not HD), video taken by a camera (not HD).

According to my calculations: if hardware framerate is 24.000 and the problematic file is 23.977, then a missed or corrupted frame should happen each ~43 sec. The problem is that I do not see this jitter regulary, rather it seems random....

Maybe I need DeClock?

Install a dedicated Graphic card?
