MC15 - Main Window cut after startup
« on: August 25, 2010, 10:58:23 am »

Hi guys,

another (minor) error occurs on both my machines (Windows 7 x64, 1 notebook, 1 desktop).

When starting up MC15, only a part of the window is displayed just like the program was not maximized. But insted of the scrollbar there is just a thin frame cutting the right and the bottom of the window. Also the control box of the title bar is not shown. Double-clicking the title bar sometimes helps. If not, I have to shoot the process from the task manager and restart MC.

Any idea what goes wrong there?

Cheers!

I haven't heard of a problem like this before.

Could you share a screenshot showing what you're seeing?

Thanks.

Bad video driver?

Bad skin?

Hi guys,

sorry for the delay.

The problem is reproducable now. Whenever I quit MC with a maximized window (which is mostly the case), this happens with either skin - and currently I am only using one that ships with MC.

Please see screenshots below:

Noire Skin:

Aruba Skin:

The black "border" around the pictures is already my desktop, so you can see, the window just seems to be cut.

I did not install a pimped video driver, but the one directly from NVIDIA home page and keep it up to date frequently. However this problem persisted several complete OS re-installations!

My Graphic adapter details are the following (as shown in Windows 7 control panel):

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260
Driver Date: 09.07.2010
Driver Version 8.17.12.5896

Maybe important to know: I am using a 64 bit machine and of course the 64 bit version of Windows 7.

I've been seeing this for ages (since 13 I think), but as noone else has mentioned it I've never commented on it - figured it was something to do with me.

Doesn't seem to be happenig on this machine, so I'll post specs of machines that it does happen on when I get to use them next.

FWIW, I've seen this on more than one machine, XP and W7 - from memory ATI and NVIDIA machines also.

I wonder if this is related to the transparent box issue some skins experience mentioned recnetly in another thread (and one of mine AGES ago)

FWIW, I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 and Windows 7 64-bit—and I've never seen anything like this.

Just a thought, Digitoux do you have a dual-head setup?  Most of my machines that have been doing it are dual head... just a thought....

Hi Confishy,

yes, it is a dual monitor setup. Did you find any solution for this?

MC15 is actually the only application that behaves like this.

No, I've not found a solution.

I think MC is the only app doing it because it relies on it's own skinning engine.

FWIW Matt, et.al., It looks as though the window size thinks its 'restored' (or in non-fullscreen mode), whereas the drawing engine seems to think the window is maximised. Is it something to do with checking the wrong screen for the current state of MC when you shut it down? (no idea, just trying to guess  ;))

I get heaps of cropping (see pic) if I run MC and it goes to the Second Monitor.  MC thinks it is Maximised but as you can see it is only covering part of the screen. To fix it I just Double Click on the Top Bar to make in "Windowed" then it is fine from then on.
Thanks
Nathan

PS ATI Card in Win 7 64-Bit.....

I get this happening as well.  I am running a dual monitor setup.  It only happens on my secondary monitor.  If MC is maximized on the secondary monitor then close MC, when I start MC again it opens backup on the secondary monitor and is cutoff.  Like jmone said above if you double click the top bar of MC it corrects, until you close and open again.  Oh and it only happens if MC is maximized then closed if MC isn't maximized on the secondary monitor, closed then opened it is fine.

I running an nvidia card, but sounds like it happens on ati as well.  Must be just when using a dual monitor setup.

This is a strange one.

We all develop on dual monitor setups at JRiver, and I haven't ever seen this.

Does it matter how the monitors are arranged (like it only happens if one has negative coordinates)?

Thanks.

I just did some testing on my setup and that's exactly what it is.  Monitor 2 is to the left of my main so it has coordinates of -1280,0.  If I move monitor 2 to the right of the main so that the main is 0,0 and monitor 2 is 1280,0 then everything works as expected.

Do you have any toolbars or other things at the edge of any monitor?

Nope, no bars other than the taskbar on the main monitor.  I have the windows sidebar turned off as well.

You may be onto something here, I see this too, and my secondary monitor is also on the left :)
