You could rip to mkv without changing codec, just change the container using makemkv or other recommended software. You also have the option of transcoding to h264 in an mkv container and significantly reducing the file size without losing visible video or audible audio quality. You could get down to a 2 GB file size easily withou compromising quality... if you get the video settings right. I cannot help with the latter though, but details should be available in other forums.
