Main Library
« on: February 11, 2011, 12:23:36 am »

I installed 160022

My library edits in my office are not apparent in my lounge on my HTPC

I have to restore the library for the current changes.

Gone back to 15 but would like to use 16

Thanks

If you need more information can you please tell me what it is that I need to explain.

Surely there are more people that edit a lan library.

Cheers

Assuming you are using Library Server it should work if you have:

- enabled authentication (on the server: Options > Media Network > Advanced Server Settings > enable Authentication and create the username & password.)

- enabled the option to sync changes (on the client: Options > Media Network > Library Server Client > Automatically sync changes made on client back to server.)

Though, maybe

means that you are using a local library.

If you want to "sync" the changes you must either use Library Server & Clients or the so called shared library option. When a library is shared all MC instances access the same database files. Then only the first MC instance can save changes. The other MC instances are read-only (they load a temporary copy of the database if it is already opened).

Library is on HTPC.

I open MC in my office, HTPC is off.

I make changes and close MC in the office.

Open HTPC and MC changes have not taken effect.

MC 15 works like this.

Has MC16 changed this??

Thanks

Did you do these?

I think maid is using a shared library on MC15.

Here is what probably happened on both machines: The MC16 installer created a copy of the currently active MC15 library (i.e. of the shared library) and also restored the settings. However, the installer created this copy to the default location (i.e. to the user specific application data location).

The copied libraries are local and completely separate from each other.

To create a shared library in MC16 you can do the following:

1. Create a new folder for the library on the "HTPC" machine. Share this folder.

2. Open the "add library" window:

3. Add a new empty library that is stored in the shared folder:

4. Restore an MC15 library backup file to this library (click the tree item to access the restore window):

5. On the other PC you can simply create a new library that points to the same shared folder. It will use the same library files.

Hey, I had exactly this problem! Took me one day to figure out that this was the reason!
