ARCAM rDac , and Kernel Streaming
« on: May 02, 2011, 05:02:59 am »

Hi , I'm testing JRiver as I'm interestd to buy it .

My  goal is to play Hi res music ( 24 bit 96 hz ) in Kernel Streaming mode.

I've set the options, but I have no sound in this way.

It plays flawlessy with ASIO -> Asio4all

Should you please help me ?

JRiver show me the listbox uutput option with KS -UBS speakers ( it seems that my Arcam , connected with USB, is mapped in this way )

I try in a several way, but no results.

The same also with foobar.

In either case, work with asio4all ( and work correctly on 24- 26 ) , and not in KS mode. but KS work trough the realtek HD notebook soundcard.

Anyone have a suggestion ?

Thanks,
Roberto

ps
Sorry for my english...

Playing with the Arcam rDAC myself I know Kernel streaming is not the mode to play. Use WASAPI Event Style instead.

These are my settings:
WASAPI Event Style
DSP all setting off, you might want to resample everything less than 44.1khz and more than 96khz to 44.1.
Pre buffering: default 6 seconds
Play silence: 0,2 seconds
Play files from memory: off

They work fine for my, though I have a Windows 7 system and you have an XP SP3, I don't know if that will make much difference.
If you play from a NAS, make sure you use a wired connection and no wireless. Arcam rDAC, esspecially with high res files., performs much better wired.

I hope this helps.

WASAPI is part of the Vista/Win7 audio engine.
Won't do on XP

As Vincet point out, wasapi is not available on XP.

I'm not able to have sound with kernel streaming from the Arcam rdac.

Thaks also for the wiki link suggested, but it don't help me.

So : if ASIO 4 all isa basically a Kernel streaming wrapper, why this one work and kernel streaming not ?

Also , there's any decrease in sound quality using asio4all instead of directly KS  ?

Thanks
