Sorry for the slow reply...
Can you run Device Spy from the intel upnp tools and open the
urn:schemas-upnp-org:RenderingControl:1
and look at the State Variable
A_ARG_TYPE_Channel to see what the Allowed values are?

Also, can you check to see if GetVolume shows up as a function under RenderingControl?

Thanks...

Hi,

the A_ARG_TYPE_Channel shows:
Allowed values: Master
Data type: string
Evented: False
Last known value: <unknown>
Variable name: A_ARG_TYPE_Channel

yes I have several functions:
GetMute, GetVolume, ListPresets, SelectPresets, SetMute, SetVolume;
GetVolume(ui4 instanceId, string Channel, ui2 CurrentVolume) ... inside there is "Return argument <none>" ... if thats important ...
When I invoke the function on channel Master I get a failed.

And now I found the reason: My TV is connected to an Sony 7.1 AV Receiver where the Sound is transfered to - this function is called "Bravia Sync". Seems that it doesn't like volume control when it's hooked up that way.
When I disconnect and put the sound on the TV speakers the volume control works.

thx

That's an AHA moment!
With the Sony 7.1 AV Receiver hooked up, can you change the volume with Device Spy even if you can't get it?

So you're connected like this?

PC > TV >AVR

What happens if you connect like this?

PC > AVR > TV

The AVR doesn't have LAN, it's connected via HDMI to the TV.

Probably can't set the volume either.
We'll remove the error for get volume and that will keep it from vanishing from the zone list. If the GetVolume returns an error though, you won't have a controllable volume slider..

Via TV remote I can set the volume which is propagated to the AVR, still the volume propagation doesn't work with DLNA. I already posted this issue to Sony and they thanked for this report and said they would consider it.

I must say, the presentation on the TV while playing is quite nice :)
The sound on the TV though is hideous. I can see why you hook it up to an external AV system...
