Hi everyone.  

I have used MC for the last 18 months without any issues, but after upgrading to 16 I have blue screen crash problems that are making it unusable  

The blue screen crashes seem to occur most when using theater view and especially opening or switching between video files.  I have looked at the other threads regarding blue screen crashes and read that this must be a hardware issue but I do not understand why - I have no problems with similar music/video software or the 3D rendering software I use.  I have updated all the drivers and am now at a dead end not knowing what to do next.  I am really gutted I can't use MC as it is the main thing I use on my HTPC - please help!

I have started the logging feature and recieved my first email today - this is the system info, but how do I post the text file?  It is too many characters.

Build 115 is available at the top of this board, but a blue screen is probably a hardware issue.

In options for video, use Red October.

Theater View may push your video card harder than any other program you use.

Update your video driver and switch to 'Low quality' in Options > General > Video Card.

If you keep having problems, your video card may be failing.  A failing video card is not as rare as you might hope.

I've had similar problems (skipping video during video playback) that caused a BSOD.

My problem was related to a combination of settings:
- Kernel streaming for audio
- Audio setting for video: "Same as device used in audio playback"

I've two workarounds that have solved the problem for me:
- switch from kernel streaming to WASAPI
or
- Change playback device setting in the video settings: Do not point to the audio settings ( "Same as device used in audio playback")

Hard drive failure is another possible cause...back up asap!

What is the blue screen you're getting?  Post the details.

Thanks for all your help I am not getting anymore blue screens!   I do get an occasional program freeze (black screen) when changing between videos now and again, but nothing to really worry about.

The changes I made were: -

Updated to latest version (still got blue screens)
Switched video audio from "Same as device used in audio playback" to SPDIF (this stopped the video blue screens, but not in audio)
Changed the Audio Direct Sound Settings Device to SPDIF and Channels to "Hardware Direct - let sound card decide"

I went to switch on Red October but found it already on after the update - I have noticed an improved response and smoothness to theater view which I assume is due to RO?

That sounds like you have a buggy sound card driver, but I'm glad you found a work around!

I am now getting BSOD only when starting music or video in theater view.  If I start music in the standard view and then switch to theatre view I don't get the crash.

Is there anything specifically different happening when starting music in theatre view that could be tracked down as the cause of my problems?

A blue screen is usually a driver or other hardware problem.  In this case, probably your video driver.  Try updating it.  Try installing DirectX from Microsoft.
