Pondering an SSD for i5 HTPC Build
« on: September 28, 2011, 03:47:52 am »

I'm debating on whether to look into getting an SSD for my boot drive for the new HTPC I will be building soon. Unfortunately they are still somewhat expensive but I don't need that large a drive for the OS and programs which won't be many. What's good for SSD's nowadays? I have a spare 120GB SATA drive that I can simply use instead for the OS and the 1TB for cable recording storage.

What say ye? :)

When I started with my HTPC about 6 months ago I had a 2 Tb drive partitioned into a 64Gb boot drive and a data drive with the remainder with the express intention to swap the boot partition into an SSD.

The boot drive is still only about half full, so I reckon a 64Gb one would be plenty. I would probably go for a SATA 3 one though for extra zip.

It still haven't got round to getting one though!

If you have a spare part for $0 that does the job, I'd just use it!
