Compilation file name ??
« on: December 24, 2011, 08:37:34 am »

Trying to rip a compilation into MediaCenter.

After the rip, the hard drive displayed the files as:
01 - Track 1 and so forth.
No name or artists

I renamed each hard drive track as:
01 Julie London - Cry Me A River
02 Miles Corbin - Tiki Hut
Etc.

Media Center continues to import the files as:
01 Track 1

Why isn't MC relecting the file name change on the hard drive??

I suppose that I could edit the name/artist in MC, but I'd rather have it simply reflect the file name change on the HD.

What am I missing?

The name of the file and the tags or properties are two separate things.  You can tell MC to try to grab the tags/properties from the file name (Fill properties from filename).

Better, when you are Ripping a CD, enter the data in the dialog that appears, or dismiss it and enter the data directly into the panes window you see (panes editing, or use the Action Window > Tag).  Then, Submit (right click the CD in MC) so that future users with that CD will obtain track info.

With this data entered, the ripped tracks will have the same set of properties.

If you're already done with the rip, you can enter the tag/properties manually.  You can later use those to Rename, Move & Copy the files to template or rule-based folder/file locations.
