Ripping SACD Disks
« on: December 29, 2011, 01:22:56 pm »

When I ripped Dark Side of the Moon on SACD, the playback was in 44khz just like redbook CDs. The stereo layer should be at least 96Khz, no? What am I doing wrong? I am using a W4S Dac2 and a new laptop w/windows 7. Also, I did note that MC sees an SACD as an Audio Disk as opposed to DVD Audio Disks, which MC sees as video. Thanks

AFAIK, the DSOTM Super Audio CD releases are hybrid discs. They contain surround and stereo mixes in the SACD format and also a standard Red Book audio CD layer. If you ripped the disc with a conventional ripper (like the one in MC), you ripped the audio CD layer and "stereo, 16-bit, 44.1 kHz" is the correct format.

Ripping the heavily copy protected SACD layer is difficult and probably also illegal in many countries.
