Let me start by admitting that I have no clue how ASIO support works in MC(17) 

When it didn't work for me on my home theater system I searched the forums and started googling for ASIO support on my system hardware and drivers and ran into this site:

http://www.asio4all.com/

I figured others might find this handy too as not all systems/drivers/programs seems to support ASIO. For me this driver seems to work fine on both my systems.

Uh ... it doesn't . Works on my main pc but the HTPC is not putting out any sound ... .

Thanks Matt, I just got it to work and now you tell me this J/k.

I can use WASAPI but kernel streaming doesn't work, isn't ASIO the next best choice?

ASIO4All isn't really ASIO.  It's just an extra layer.

Yes I was just reading that, I didn't realize that about asio4all so i simply asumed it was the preferred choice.

WASAPI event style mode works on my HTPC too so I'll use that.

One question about that if you don't mind, the default recommended buffering setting is 100ms. I asume this is set to 100 to keep a safe distance from hiccups occurring and lower is always better as long as it plays smoothly?

The primary buffering size is a tradeoff between latency (time between when audio is handed off and when it's heard) and hiccup prevention.

Low latency isn't all that important in a playback program, but too high of a latency can cause video playback issues (DVD won't provide audio too far ahead of video) and cause delays when using internal volume or other effects.
